Indiana has been fairly consistent in its opposition to online gambling legislation, but as of 2020 this could be changing. The Hoosier State has become one of the most recent US jurisdictions to allow online sports betting. Lawmakers approved legislation that allowed the very first online sportsbooks in Indiana to appear in late 2019.
All online sports betting in Indiana is overseen by the Indiana Gaming Commission. DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM are just three of the online sportsbooks allowed to operate in the state.
Offshore online gambling sites are considered illegal in Indiana. The same can be said for sweepstakes gambling sites which try to work around existing laws with a sweepstakes structure. It is recommended that residents of Indiana stick with approved and regulated forms of online betting.
Online poker may eventually make its way to Indiana. The opposition now comes from the fact that there are many live poker rooms in the state. These operators are not keen on the idea of online poker because it could take away from their live revenues.
TVG and BetAmerica are both allowed to offer online horse racing betting to the residents of Indiana. Anyone who wishes to make bets in Indiana must be over the age of 21, with some parimutuel forms of betting being permitted at 18.
